Hedayat Abdullahpour, a Kurdish political prisoner, was secretly executed a month ago.
According to the Campaign for Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, on Wednesday June 10th, 2020, following the summoning of the family of Hedayat Abdullahpour, a Kurdish political prisoner sentenced to death, the Urmia Court of Appeals Office informed the family of the execution of this political prisoner. They also told that the body of “Hedayat Abdullahpour” was buried in an unknown location.
According to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, on May 9th, 2020, after Hedayat Abdullahpour was summoned to the prison’s security office, he was transferred to a safe cell. In the morning of May 1oth, 2020, he was executed in Urmia Central Prison in the presence of the families of a number of IRGC members who were killed in a clash in the village of Qarasqal Oshnoyeh.
This secret execution took place when on Wednesday, May 13th, 2020, Amnesty International issued a statement urging Iranian officials to immediately release the information about the three Ahwazi Arab political prisoners sentenced to death, Hussein Silavi, Ali Khosarji, and Nasser Khafaji. (Khafajian), and a Kurdish political prisoner sentenced to death, “Hedayat Abdullahpour”.
The refusal of the Iranian authorities to provide information to the families of the four prisoners is a clear example of “forced disappearance”, which is a crime under international law.
On the other hand, the case of “Hedayat Abdullahpour ” was sent to the Amnesty and Forgiveness Commission after the death sentence was confirmed. The execution of this Kurdish political prisoner took place, while the execution of the death sentence is against the law until the final result is announced.
This political prisoner was repeatedly subjected to physical and psychological torture during detention and interrogation, and was denied the right to contact his family.
Hedayat Abdullahpour along with six others, were detained by security forces, in connection with clashes in the village of Qaraqal in Oshnoyeh on June 15th, 2016.
In connection with this case, 6 other people were sentenced to prisons. They are named: “Rasoul Azizi, known as Hasid”, son of Ibrahim, to 25 years in prison, “Mohammad Zahir Faramarzi”, son of Karim to 20 years in prison, “Jalal Masrouri”, son of Moulod to 15 years in prison, “Kamal Masrouri” son of Moulod to 10 years in prison, Yaqub Bakram, son of Rasoul to 10 years in prison, and Siddiq Bakram, son of Hassan to 10 years in prison, which all were upheld by the Supreme Court.
Hedayat Abdullahpour, a Kurdish political prisoner, was sentenced to death by Branch One of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia on charges of “negligence.” On January 2018.
Despite the Supreme Court reversing the death sentence, Hedayat Abdullahpour was re-sentenced to death for the second time by the same branch on Thursday, January 18th, 2016.
The death sentence of “Hedayat Abdullahpour”, a political prisoner imprisoned in Urmia Central Prison, was upheld by Branch 47 of the Supreme Court and was announced to his lawyer and family on Monday, October 8th, 2018.
Relatives of the Kurdish political prisoner sentenced to death told the Campaign: “Hedayat Abdullahpour was sentenced to death at the request and pressure of the Urmia Revolutionary Guard Intelligence Protection.”
It should be noted that the family of Hedayat Abdullahpour has also been pressured by the Oshnoyeh Intelligence Office and have been summoned or interrogated several times. Among them is Farhad Abdullahpour, the brother of a political prisoner sentenced to death, who was arrested by IRGC intelligence forces in Oshnoyeh on June 30th, 2018. He was released on 200 million Tomans bail on Thursday, September 13th, 2018.
