Chia Mohammadi, an environmental activist from Sanandaj, was sentenced to 6 years in prison by the branch 4 of Kurdistan Court of Appeal, presided by Judge Tayyari. The civil activist was arrested in March last year and sentenced to five years in prison by the branch 1 of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, presided by Judge Saeedi.
According to the Campaign for Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Chia Mohammadi, an environmental activist from Sanandaj, was sentenced to six years in prison by the branch 4 of Kurdistan Court of Appeal in Kurdistan.
According to the verdict, the Kurdish citizen was sentenced to 5 year in prison for “acting against national security by cooperating with one of the Kurdish opposition parties to the government” and 1 year in prison for “propaganda against the system”. Based on the Islamic Penal Code of 134, 5 years of this verdict is pertinent.
Mr. Mohammadi was sentenced to five years in prison by the branch one of the Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj on charges of “acting against national security by cooperating with one of the Kurdish opposition parties in the Iranian government” in September 2019.
On February 23rd, 2019, security agents arrested Mr. Mohammadi and taken him to the detention center in Sanandaj. Prior to the arrest, it was said that security forces had entered his house without any court order, but since Mr. Mohammadi was not there, they only searched the house and seized some of his personal belongings.
Mr. Mohammadi was temporarily released from the Central Prison in Sanandaj on 800 million Tomans bail on Wednesday, July 24th, 2019.
