Three Ahwaz Arab citizens, Ali Khosraji, Hossein Silavi, and Nasser Khafaji are on death row.
These three are accused of participation in an armed attack on police station at the Mujahideen-e-Koji in Ahwaz on Monday, May 15th, 2017.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Ali Khosraji, 27 years old and residence of Alavi street, Hossein Silavi, 31 years old and residence of Khabineh Ahwaz, and Nasser Khafaji (Marmazie), 34 years (Naja Officer ) are charged with cooperating and participating in the attack on the police station at the Mujahideen-e-Koji in Ahwaz on Monday, May 15th, 2017.
Their death sentences have been upheld in the appeals court after being issued at the lower court. It is also said that sentences have been upheld in Supreme Court as well.
Earlier on Tuesday, January 14th, 2020, Judiciary Spokesman Gholamhossein Emaeili announced the death sentence for the three defendants without mentioning the names of these individuals in a news conference in Ahwaz.
A spokesman for the judiciary said, “The death sentence was issued for three Ahwazi men accused of participating in a raid on an Ahwaz police station.”
Gholamhossein Emaeili claimed that “these individuals were associated a foreign affiliated group and member of antagonist group that were planning to film the operation and send it to overseas media. With the efforts they were identified, arrested and tried last week. In this case, three defendants have been sentenced death and rest to 15-years and 10-years imprisonment for armed terrorism, and one to 5 years in prison.” Judicial spokesman did not mentioned the name of individuals and the processes of their cases.
Based on an informed source, the death sentences were issued while, “The three Ahwazi detainees were denied access to a lawyer during the trial and were severely tortured and pressured to obtain confessions during their detention. They were repeatedly beaten during the interrogation and suffered fractures to the ribs and hands as a result of torture injuries.”
Security and judicial authorities have arrested the three Ahwaz citizens on charges of participating in an armed attack on the Hamid police station, 40 kilometers from the city of Ahwaz, and the police station 23 on the outskirts of the Mujahideen city of Ahwaz in May, 2017.
According to the latest reports sent to the Campaign, Ali Khosraji and Hossein Silavi are detained in the detention center of Shiban Prison in Ahvaz and Nasser Khafaji is detained in Intelligence detention center.
