Muslim Suleimani, secretary of the Islamic Association of Kurdistan University Students, Zaniar Ahmadpour, member of the Islamic Association of Kurdistan University Students, and Arshad Atabak student activists of the university, following the protests the shooting down of a Ukrainian plane by the IRGC missile and keeping the memorial services, were arrested yesterday by security forces with “physical violence”.
On Wednesday, January 15th, 2020, Moslem Soleimani, a graduate student in mechanical engineering at University of Kurdistan, Arshad Atabak, a senior student in Arabic literature at University of Kurdistan, and Zaniar Ahmadpour, an undergraduate student in economics at University of Kurdistan, were detained by security forces and taken to an unknown location.
According to the Students’ Telegraph Channel and quoted by eyewitnesses, students gathered to commemorate the victims of that great catastrophe, [the Ukrainian plane was shot down by the IRGC]. At the end of the program, the Plainclothes forces attacked student caravan. After stopping the vehicle, they pull the students out and beat them. They arrested three students of University of Kurdistan and taken them to an unknown location.
According to reliable news and reports sent to United Students, the Islamic Association of Kurdistan University Students had obtained a license from the University of Kurdistan to hold a rally to commemorate the victims of the Tehran Kiev passenger plane crash. But despite the university’s permission, due to pressure on the university, the university withdrew its legal authority and decisions, and eventually shunned the support of its students.
Following the cancellation of the permission for commemoration and the restriction on student organizations activities, the opportunity was taken away to facilitate the commemoration by the student organizations. However, the students spontaneously gathered to commemorate the victims of Boeing 737 plane crash without the involvement of various institutions and organizations. This resulted in three students arrest by security forces with physical violence at the end of program.
