Shahnaz Akmali, the mother of Mustafa Karim beigi, who was killed during the 2009 election uprising, after appearing before Evin Prison Execution Branch, was taken to Evin Prison to server her sentence of one-year imprisonment.
“I am taking my son’s photo with me in prison because I know it will make my heart strong.” Shahnaz Akmali wrote on Twitter on Wednesday, January 15th, 2020, a few hours before going to Evin Prison. “I am a mother who is guilty of asking for justice repeatedly withd a simple question I never got answer for: Who killed my son? Thank you to all the people who have been with me and my family. We are relatives now and we have no one, but ourselves. Hope for the good days to come. “
On January 14th, 2020, four security guards went to Ms. Akmali’s home but failed to arrest her as she was not home.
Ms. Akmali had previously been summoned to the Revolutionary Court’s Branch 1 to serve her sentence.
Shahnaz Akmali had earlier written on Twitter with the release of the subpoena image: “I have received the subpoena with deadline of five days. During the interrogation they asked me to forget my son and I said I can’t forget and that it is a mother who cannot forget having a son. Today I have sons and daughters all over Iran. “
Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, chaired by Judge Mashalah Ahmadzadeh, sentenced Ms. Akmali to a one-year imprisonment sentence, two years band on cyberspace activities and attending any political activities, and two years of band on leaving Iran on charges of “propaganda against the system.
Subsequently, Tehran’s Court of Appeals, Branch 36, headed by Judge Seyed Ahmad Zargar, upheld the lower court’s ruling.
