Iqbal Zarei, a Kurdish prisoner held in Saqez Prison, has been on a hunger strike in protest to Intelligence system interfere with his case and preventing his conditional release.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Iqbal Zarei, political prisoner detained in Saqez Prison, has been on hunger strike since Wednesday, October 16th, 2019, over alleged interference by the Saqez Intelligence Office’s News headquarters in his case that caused him to not be released.
It has been said that the Saqez Revolutionary Court have agreed to the release of the prisoner, but the Saqez intelligence office has prevented his release order to be served.
Mr. Zare’i, a resident of the village of Khooshehdara in the city of Saqez, was arrested by security forces at his home on July 2016. He was sentenced to four years and four months imprisonment by the First Branch of the Saqez Revolutionary Court for “affiliation with one of the Kurdish opposition parties.”
The citizen had previously been arrested on similar charges and sentenced to prison terms by the judiciary system.
