Two Kurdish citizens were arrested

Two Kurdish citizens were arrested in the cities of Javanrood and Gilan-e-Gharb in Kermanshah Province on charges of “working with one of the Kurdish parties”.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, on Monday May 21st, 2018, a Kurdish citizen named Osman Jalali, a resident of Javanrood, was detained by security forces and transferred to an unknown location.

After Mr. Jalali’s close relative followed-up on his situation, it was clear that he has been charged with “collaborating with one of the Kurdish parties” and is under interrogation at one of the security detention centers.

Previously, Osman Jalali was a member of a Kurdish party for several months, and according to his family, he has not had any political activity after returning to his native land.

At the same time, it was reported that Mehdi Imam Abbasi, another Kurdish citizen residing in the Gilan-e-Gharb , was also arrested on charges of “cooperating with Kurdish parties”.

It is notable that, usually people accused of membership or cooperation with Kurdish parties, after interrogation, are prosecuted by the Revolutionary Courts under Article 499 of the Islamic Penal Code about the cooperation or membership in security-distorting organizations.

In recent years, security forces have arrested civil activists with the charges of collaborating with Kurdish parties with the aim of suppressing Kurdish activists and creating terror/fear in the region.

This is despite the fact that many detainees say that these allegations have no basis and their confessions were under pressure from security forces interrogators.
