Alireza Varasteh, a 23-year-old expelled student from Tarbiat Moalem Kashan University and current student of Tarbiat Moalem Pardis Karaj University was arrested at his father’s home in October 2017, is sentenced to 10 years in prison. He is in critical condition in Kashan Prison.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Alireza Varasteh, a 23-year-old student of Tarbiat Moalem Kashan University and an expelled student of the Tarbiat Moalem University of Pardis Karaj, who was arrested from his father’s home on October 2017, is sentenced to 10 years in prison. Despite the medical documents on his health condition and approval of the medical commission for his care, Alireza Varasteh has been denied of medical care and he is in critical condition.
Alireza Varasteh, had previously been banned from attending university of Kashan by the Disciplinary Committee of the University because of political activities and speeches at the University of Tarbiat Moalem University of Karaj Campus criticizing the Guardian Council.
Alireza Varasteh was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in the Revolutionary Courts of the Kashan on the basis of Articles 500, 501 and 514 of the Islamic Penal Code on charges of sending secrets and decisions about the policies of the country to the others. He was sentenced to an additional 1 year imprisonment for charges of advertising activities in favor of the opposition group. He was sentenced to 2 more years imprisonment for insulting Imam Khomeini the leader and founder of the Islamic Regime. It was said that his parents were prevented from attending the trail and all stages of the interrogation.
According to the medical report, Alireza Varasteh needs to be admitted to a hospital outside the prison, but his case investigator has prevented the transfer.
Alireza Varasteh’s lawyer Hamid Rauofinah, emphasized that the spy charges that my client was given are completely baseless and they protested against the verdict.
