Bakhtiar Arefi, a Sardasht teacher who had previously been sentenced to imprisonment for “membership in the congregation”, was transferred to the prison for his prison sentence enforcement.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Bakhtiar Arefi, a Sunni religious teacher in Sardasht city, was arrested and transferred to prison on July 24th, 2018, for his prison sentence enforcement.
Bakhtiar Arefi was arrested by the security forces on January 25th, 2015, on charges of “membership in the assembly of Inviting and Reforming” and was temporarily released on bail on February 5th, 2015, until the trial was held.
Mr. Arefi was sentenced to three years imprisonment without access to a lawyer in the Revolutionary Court on February 5th, 2015. After Kurdish citizen protests and reaffirmation of the sentence by the Supreme Court Branch 40, finally, on October 30th, 2017, Branch 13 of the Appeals Court in Orumiyeh, reduced his sentence to 18 months by referring to article 18 of the Islamic Penal Code.
Based on his detentions during the length of his arrest, he must be released on December 23rd, 2019.
