Ghazal Marzban Started Hunger Strike to Protest her Uncertain Case

Ghazal Marzban, a Gilak Christian convert and law graduate from Lasht-e Nesha, has gone on a hunger strike in protest of the unresolved status of her case and the lack of judicial clarity.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Ms. Marzban, a prisoner of conscience detained in the women’s ward of Evin Prison, has endured nearly 50 days of psychological and physical pressure resulting from her detention and the inadequate handling of her case.

Ghazal Marzban was arrested on November 5, 2024, near Valiasr Square in Tehran for chanting slogans critical of the government. Initially, she was taken to the Vozara detention center, and two days later, she was transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison.

This Christian convert faces charges such as “propaganda against the government” and “violating mandatory hijab laws.” The uncertainty surrounding her case and the lack of transparency in the judicial process have driven her to initiate a hunger strike.
