Diako Azizi Arrested and Transferred to Prison to Serve Sentence

Diako Azizi, a 36-year-old Iranian Kurdish citizen, has been summoned, arrested, and transferred to prison to begin serving his sentence.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Diako Azizi was detained following his summons to the Enforcement of Sentences Office in Oshnavieh. He was subsequently transferred to the Oshnavieh Central Prison to serve his 18-month prison term.

In early November 2024, the Oshnavieh Criminal Court Branch 101, presided over by Judge Ansari, sentenced Azizi to 18 months of imprisonment on charges of “association and collaboration with the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan.”

Diako Azizi, a resident of Babkhalabad (Babkhalavi) village in Oshnavieh, was violently arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, September 4, 2024. His detention coincided with a widespread crackdown on Iranian Kurds ahead of the anniversary of Jina Amini’s state-related death.

Three weeks after his arrest, Azizi was temporarily released from Oshnavieh Central Prison on 1.2 billion tomans bail, pending the completion of his legal proceedings.
