Raoofeh Mirbagheri, a women’s rights activist from Tonekabon, was released on September 15, 2024, after serving eight months of her prison sentence. She spent two months of this period in the prisons of Sari and Tonekabon and the remaining six months under house arrest with an electronic ankle monitor and restricted movement.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Raoofeh Mirbagheri was arrested on October 26, 2022, in Tonekabon and sentenced to eight months in prison on charges of propaganda against the regime.
This women’s rights activist had refused to request government pardon for her protest-related activities regarding women’s rights and was ultimately sentenced to serve this term.
On February 10, 2023, she was summoned by the Criminal Enforcement Branch of the General and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office of Tonekabon to begin serving her sentence, with an obligation to present herself to judicial authorities within seven days.
After spending two months in Sari and Tonekabon prisons, she served the remainder of her sentence under house arrest, restricted to within 1,000 meters of her home, with an electronic ankle monitor.
Upon completing her sentence, she was released from custody on September 15, 2024.
