On Tuesday, August 13, and Sunday, August 4, 2024, the death sentences of four prisoners were carried out in the central prisons of Bandar Abbas and Arak.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Abdullah Lashtghouni, charged with drug-related offenses, and Hamed Mozaffari, charged with premeditated murder, were executed in Bandar Abbas Prison on the morning of Tuesday, August 13.
Additionally, in Arak Central Prison, Mehdi Hosseini and Amir Tasbihi, both charged with drug-related offenses, were executed on the morning of Sunday, August 4.
Reports indicate that these prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement before the execution of their sentences.
It is noteworthy that the executions of these prisoners have not been confirmed by Iranian domestic media or official sources at the time of this report.
Mehdi Hosseini had been imprisoned for six years and Amir Tasbihi for two years on drug-related charges. Abdullah Lashtghouni was from Bandar Khamir, and Hamed Mozaffari was from Bandar Lengeh. Mehdi Hosseini was from Arak, and Amir Tasbihi was from Saveh.
The execution of death sentences in Iran, particularly for drug-related crimes, has sharply increased in recent years. Statistics show that in 2023, the number of executions related to drug offenses increased by approximately 84% compared to 2022.
