Mohammad Habibi, spokesperson for the Tehran Teachers’ Trade Association, has been sentenced to six months and one day in prison for protesting the serial poisonings of students.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Mr. Habibi announced this news in a message on the social media platform X.
His prison sentence was issued in a case formed following protests against the student poisonings in various schools across Iran.
In court, Mohammad Habibi stated that defending the rights of students is one of the primary duties of any teachers’ union activist.
This sentence once again highlights the suppression of trade union and civil activists in Iran.
The serial poisonings of students in Iranian schools began in late 2022, sending dozens of students to the hospital.
The perpetrators of these poisonings have not yet been identified, and government officials have remained silent on the issue.
Iranian trade union and civil activists, including Mohammad Habibi, have called for a full and transparent investigation into these poisonings and for action to be taken against those responsible.
